Nigerian Farmers Demand Compensation Over Losses Caused by Naira Redesign

Nigerian farmers, through their association AFAN, have sent an appeal to the Federal Government for compensation on the losses they suffered during the presidential election period cash crunch caused by the Naira redesign. They suggested government-funded  grants, inputs, fertiliser and farm implements as forms of compensation.

The chairman of the All Farmers Association of Nigeria, Lagos and South-West Zone, Dr Femi Oke, said that the policy disrupted farm activities greatly. However, members rearing livestock, poultry, piggery and processors were the most affected.

“If we are to quantify these losses, it runs into billions of naira that we have lost during this period. The poultry farmers were the most affected, it was just like the period of the COVID-19 which we experienced in 2020. We pray never to have a repeat of the COVID-19 again because it was a great loss,
