Lagos State Governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu has announced that the state’s ambitious Food Security Systems and Central Logistics Hub project in Epe is on track for completion next year. The governor posted the announcement on his official X page.
Effectively, during a recent inspection tour of the 220-hectare site in Ketu-Ejirin, the governor revealed that Phase One of the project is scheduled to be operational by the second quarter of 2025.
Once fully completed, the hub, touted as the largest in Sub-Saharan Africa, is expected to significantly enhance food security for Lagos residents and stabilise food prices in the market.
Furthermore, the facility will feature extensive cold and dry chain storage capabilities. This will enable efficient storage and distribution of agricultural produce.
A brighter future for Lagos food supply
Meanwhile, Governor Sanwo-Olu expressed optimism about the project’s potential to revolutionise the state’s food supply chain. He reiterated the government’s commitment to reducing food prices and ensuring sustainable food production.
In addition to the central hub, the state leadership is also developing several middle-level markets in strategic locations across Lagos. These markets are expected to benefit from the efficient supply chain facilitated by the logistics hub.
Also, the governor highlighted the inclusion of a large-scale abattoir within the hub, which will have the capacity to accommodate 14,000 cattle upon completion. This infrastructure will contribute to improved meat supply and quality control.
Meantime, Prince Samuel Joseph Samuel, the Managing Director of Origin Technology Group, is a key partner in the project. He expressed confidence in the transformative impact of the hub on the Ketu-Ejirin area and the overall economy of Lagos State, particularly the agricultural sector.
