Specifically, this initiative aims to distribute a total of three million birds to households across the country, promoting commercial poultry production and increasing household income.
Essentially, the program seeks to achieve a dual benefit, by providing families with a sustainable source of protein through egg and poultry consumption, while addressing nutritional needs within rural communities.
Additionally, it fosters commercialisation of rural poultry production, empowering households to generate income through egg and poultry sales.
According to Ministry statistics, a total of 1.5 million birds have already been distributed to various provinces as of May 2024. These birds encompass a variety of breeds, including Boschveld, Sasso, Kuroiler, and indigenous chickens, offering farmers a selection suited to their specific needs and preferences.
