In a move reiterating the importance of agriculture to Taraba State, Governor Agbu Kefas recently launched the distribution of 250 tractors to farmers across the state. This represents the first phase of a larger procurement plan to deliver a total of 850 tractors.
According to a post made on his official X (formerly Tiwtter) account, the governor underscored the critical role that agriculture plays in the state’s economic well-being. He also acknowledged the longstanding challenges faced by farmers.
Subsequently, he declared that these challenges are now a thing of the past in the new era where farmers will not be restricted by a lack of equipment. He added that he is committed to empowering farmers to increase production, highlighting the distribution program and accompanying training initiatives designed to equip farmers with the necessary skills to operate the tractors effectively.
Additionally, the governor stressed the need for further investment in irrigation systems to propel agricultural growth within the state. He lauded the contributions of farmers, hailing them as the driving force behind Taraba’s agricultural efforts.
Furthermore, he acknowledged the challenges that the road ahead may present, but opined that with a shared vision and unwavering determination, we will transform Taraba into a leading agricultural hub.
Meantime, the Commissioner for Agriculture and Food Security, Professor Nicholas, underscored the unprecedented nature of this initiative. He revealed that over 250 youths have undergone training to ensure the efficient use of the tractors.
A representative of SALEK, the Czech company supplying the tractors, commended Governor Kefas’ leadership and expressed continued support for Taraba’s agricultural development.
