A Nigerian customs command has reported â¦â86.426 billion worth of agricultural products export in the Q1 2023. The report says that it processed a total 118,184.96 tonnage of agricultural exports between January and March.
Products like cocoa beans, cashew nuts, sesame seeds, hibiscus flower, soya beans and ginger dominated the list.
Babandede Mohammed, the Customs Area Controller in charge of the Lilypond Export Terminal command made the revelation in a statement obtained by media outlets.
It is important to note that while the Lilypond terminal in Ijora, Lagos, was designated as a specialised processing and handling facility for the exporting locally made finished and agricultural goods, it does not represent the total agricultural goods exports for Q1 2023. That report will be made available by the National Bureau of Statistics (NBS) soon.
In addition, Nigeria Customs Service (NCS) has several other area commands apart from this one, through which exports and imports are carried out (about 24 in total).
A Special Non-Oil Export Processing Facility
The designation of the Lilypond terminal has made it a choice destination for agricultural product exporters in Nigeria. Mohammed, mentioned above, claimed that his command had reduced delay in export processing.
âIt has reduced congestion along the access roads to the port and also inside the port terminals, giving space for import containers. It has reduced the cost of export business. It has reduced the issue of contract cancellation. The issue of pilfering of cargo has been eliminated. Released containers can access the port within 48hrs for loading on to awaiting vessel. The command in collaboration with shipping lines has reduced the turnaround time of a vessel which decreases the cost of shipping. Lilypond Export Command has completely erased the issue of rejection and return of our agro-produce which is usually caused by delay and lack of requisite phyto-sanitary certificates,
