The Oyo state government, through its Sustainable Action for Economic Recovery (SAfER) program, has distributed essential farm supplies to farmers across six local government regions.
The supplies included herbicides, sprayer tanks, hybrid maize seedlings, insecticide, and improved cassava stems. Oyo state’s Commissioner for Agriculture and Rural Development, Olasunkanmi Olaleye, oversaw the distribution event
Represented by the Director for Regulation and Enforcement, Olusegun Ezekiel, the commissioner stressed the government’s commitment to improving the quality and quantity of agricultural production to ensure food security in Oyo State.
Additionally, he announced the imminent rollout of the fifth phase of the SAfER program’s food security component. This next phase will encompass free cattle vaccinations, livestock feed distribution for goat and sheep farmers, and tractor use subsidies.
Furthermore, Olaleye confirmed that the farm input distribution was taking place simultaneously across six local governments within the Oke Ogun area, including ATISBO, Saki West, Oorelope, Kajola, Iwajowa, and Itesiwaju.
Meanwhile, stakeholders as well as local community leaders, commended Governor Seyi Makinde for his efforts in supporting farmers within the state. They acknowledged the timeliness of the distribution and urged farmers to utilise the provided resources effectively.
The SAfER program was launched by the state government to mitigate the challenges faced by farmers following the federal government’s subsidy removal in 2023.
