Ogun State government has pledged to support poultry farmers through special intervention programmes aimed at enhancing their productivity and profitability.

The Commissioner for Agriculture, Bolu Owotomo, gave the assurance during the 12th edition of the Nigeria Poultry Show 2023, organised by the Poultry Association of Nigeria (PAN).

Themed ‘Mitigating the Challenges of the Poultry Industry: Current Perspective, the Role of Government and Private Sector’, the event was held at the Olusegun Obasanjo Presidential Library in Abeokuta.

Owotomo said the federal and state governments were aware of the numerous challenges faced by the poultry industry, including the high cost of feeds.

He promised that the Ogun State government would intervene to provide an enabling environment, security, and encourage cluster farming for maize farmers to ensure a regular supply of maize used in the production of poultry feeds.

Additionally, the commissioner said the government would help the PAN to procure landed property and other facilities to house its secretariat, as well as sponsor its yearly poultry show.

On his part, the President of PAN, Chief Sunday Obiora, commended the Ogun State government for its commitment to supporting the poultry industry. He said the intervention programmes would go a long way in helping farmers to overcome the challenges they face.

Obiora also called on other state governments to emulate the Ogun State government and support the poultry industry.
