Nigeria’s North East Development Commission (NEDC) has distributed essential farm supplies to 4,200 farmers across Bauchi State’s 20 local government areas. Sulaiman Aliyu, representing the NEDC, officially launched the distribution program in Katagum.

He revealed that the effort aligns with President Bola Tinubu’s administration’s focus on bolstering food production to address national food security concerns.

Also Aliyu noted the collaborative nature of the project, involving the NEDC, LOBITO group, and other stakeholders, with the aim of promoting both dry season and rainy season farming activities.

Meanwhile, the donated farm inputs include essential equipment and resources such as 3-inch water pumps, liquid fertilisers, agrochemicals, and improved maize and rice seeds.

Furthermore, Usman Darazo, LOBITO Coordinator for Bauchi, explained that the distribution will reach 4,200 farmers across the state, facilitated through LOBITO structures and collaborating stakeholders. He said the initiative prioritises supporting grassroots farmers across all three senatorial districts within Bauchi.

Stakeholders expressed their appreciation for the initiative. Darazo commended the NEDC for the contribution, highlighting the positive impact the supplies will have on agricultural practices and food security efforts.

Additionally, Alhaji Abdullahi Idris Lanzai, LOBITO Group Chairman for Bauchi State, echoed this sentiment. He reiterated the programme’s aim of assisting farmers in achieving abundant harvests.

Representatives from the beneficiary communities also expressed their gratitude, and pledged to utilise the supplies effectively to enhance their agricultural operations.

Effectively, the North-East Development Commission (NEDC), according to the commission’s website, is the ‘focal organization charged with the responsibility to assess, coordinate, harmonise and report on all intervention programs, and initiatives.’

It adds that these programmes are carried out by the ‘Federal Government or any of its Ministries, Departments and Agencies (MDAs), States, and other Development Partners and for the implementation of all programs and initiatives for the North East states; Adamawa, Bauchi, Borno, Gombe, Taraba, and Yobe, respectively.
