Nigeria’s FCT Minister Seeks South Korea, Turkey Partnership On Vocational Education, Agriculture

News in brief: The Federal Capital Territory (FCT) is considering partnerships with South Korea for vocational education and Turkey for agriculture, as announced by minister Nyesom Wike during a meeting with the ambassadors of both countries.

Nyesom Wike, the minister of the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), has announced that the FCT administration is open to partnering with the Republic of South Korea and Turkey on vocational education and agriculture, respectively.

Wike made the remarks on Tuesday when the ambassadors of South Korea and Turkey to Nigeria, Kim Young-Chae and Hidayet Bayraktar, paid him a courtesy visit at his office in Abuja.

According to a local news outlet, the minister said that he had been to South Korea when he was the minister of education and was impressed with the country’s vocational education model. He said the education model provides students with skills that they can use to get jobs even if they do not want to go to university.

Wike said that the FCT administration is also interested in partnering with Turkey on agricultural development because of its experience in the sector. He added that the administration is willing to learn from Turkey and to implement some of its agricultural practices.

Kim Young-Chae said that he was pleased to hear about the FCT administration’s interest in partnering with South Korea on vocational education. He said that his country is willing to share its expertise with the and to help the FCT develop a world-class vocational education system.

For his part, Hidayet Bayraktar expressed his willingness to partner with the FCT Administration on agricultural development. He added that Turkiye will share its experience with the FCT.

The two ambassadors said that they would work with the FCT administration to finalise the details of the partnerships.
