News in brief:
– Eden Group launches e-Moringa organic fertiliser to support Nigerian farmers and promote sustainable agriculture.
– The fertiliser is made from Moringa Oleifera extract, distributed through a three-step process, and meets international standards.

Eden Group has recently introduced the e-Moringa organic fertiliser to ease primary food production in Nigeria.

During the launch event, the chairman of Eden Group, Dr. Michael Ashimashiga, spoke on the struggles of Nigerian farmers who have been plagued by a lack of agricultural support and resources, further complicated by mismanagement. To counter these challenges, the Eden Group has developed a 100% organic fertiliser using Moringa Oleifera extract.

Moringa Oleifera is commonly known as the drumstick tree and it has rich nutritional profile and various health benefits. The extract from this tree is now being harnessed to create an organic fertiliser that rejuvenates soil nutrients depleted by synthetic fertilisers. This, in turn, improves the health of agricultural produce, making it more nutritious and sustainable.

To ensure wide accessibility, the e-Moringa organic fertiliser will be distributed directly to farmers across Nigeria’s 774 local governments. The distribution process is straightforward:

  1. Download an Agricultural Revolution form from the Eden Group’s website.
  2. Make a 50% deposit.
  3. Provide a guarantor’s check.

This simple process aims to make organic fertiliser accessible to farmers at an affordable price, fostering agricultural sustainability across the nation.

Scientific rigour and international standards

Dr. Ashimashiga emphasised that organic fertiliser supports crop growth while contributing to the country’s overall health and agricultural sustainability. With the current food crisis, there is an urgent need for such support. Despite logistical challenges, the Eden Group remains committed to the production and distribution of its innovative solution.

Dr. Shuaiba Adamu, an agronomist with Eden Group, highlighted the scientific rigor behind the development of the soil stimulant. Collaborations with the International Institute of Tropical Agriculture (IITA) also ensure that the fertiliser meets international standards, paving the way for potential export opportunities.

While the primary focus is on supporting Nigerian farmers, the implications of this initiative extend globally. By setting a precedent for sustainable agricultural practices, Eden Group’s e-Moringa organic fertiliser can inspire similar initiatives worldwide, promoting a healthier, more sustainable approach to farming.

Eden Group is an agribusiness and besides the newly announced fertiliser, the company has been producing food products like rice, garri and beans. It also show cases other crop treatment products like an immune formula for blisters and moringa oil.
