Nigerian Farmers Association Adopts Tingo Mobile’s Nwassa Marketplace Platform

The All Farmers Association of Nigeria (AFAN) has adopted Tingo Mobile’s Nwassa marketplace platform as its exclusive marketplace platform for its members.

In a press release by Tingo Group, the company said that it is working closely with the farmers’ association to support it in achieving its goal, and to grow its own customer base in Nigeria to 60 million.

AFAN houses 56 recognised commodities and agricultural associations in Nigeria, with branches in all 36 states. It has announced a national program to register all farmers across Nigeria.

Supported by a wide-reaching national marketing campaign across Nigeria, the association is promoting the Nwassa marketplace to potential new members. It will recommend it as a method of purchasing farming inputs and selling their produce, both directly to consumers and to wholesalers and food processors. Additionally, it is will promote the platform for purchasing or facilitating a range of value-added services such as mobile phone airtime and data top-up.

Speaking on the partnership, interim Co-Chief Executive Officer of Tingo Group, Inc., Dozy Mmobuosi, said the collaboration with AFAN is a significant and humbling endorsement. He expressed gratitude to the leadership of the farmers’ association, for their tremendous support. He said the two parties are working closely to further improve and expand Nigeria’s agricultural sector as well as deliver empowerment and financial upliftment to the country’s farmers.

Furthermore, the Tingo Group CEO emphasised that it was particularly gratifying to see the company deliver both technological inclusion and financial inclusion to 6 million new farmers by leasing their smartphones to and onboarding them onto Nwassa.

He expressed confidence in changing the lives of participating farmers and their families through improving crop yields, better purchase prices and reducing their post-harvest losses.

On his part, the president of (AFAN) Farouk Rabiu Mudi said that he was happy about the relationship between his association and Tingo, and the immense support they continue to receive. He also revealed that the union would be targeting enrolling 20 million members with the IT management service company.
