The Nigerian government has launched a new tool to help guide the transformation of food systems in the country. The tool, called the National Food System Dashboard, presents data from multiple sources into simple graphics that make it easy for people to understand.
Minister of Agriculture, Senator Abubakar Kyari, made the revelation at an event organised by the Global Alliance for Food Security at Transcorp Hilton, Abuja.
The NFSD aims to diagnose the challenges in the food and nutrition systems in Nigeria and provide actionable solutions to address them, a news coverage of the event stated. It is designed to guide policy makers and businesses at both the national and sub-national levels to make informed decisions about food systems.
The dashboard will incorporate 99 indicators that provide a comprehensive view of Nigeria’s food system. As it is finalised, it will also provide a map of emerging business opportunities and potential areas for investment in the food system.
The dashboard is also linked to a global food system dashboard, likely the one that the World Bank launched, and it will allow Nigeria to compare its performance to other countries. It also draws data from public and private databases both within and outside the country.
The launch of the National Food System Dashboard is seen as a significant step forward for Nigeria’s food system transformation agenda. With it, stakeholders will be able to make informed decisions about how to improve the food system, which will benefit all Nigerians.
