The Nigerian Export Promotions Council (NEPC) is urging businesses in the country’s South-South region to focus on non-oil exports for economic diversification.
NEPC CEO Nonye Ayeni highlighted the potential of palm kernels, stating that Nigeria could become a world leader in export the product if producers develop the capacity to export large volumes.
She made this call during a one-day stakeholders interactive meeting in Port Harcourt, Rivers State, according to a local news outlet coverage.
Essentially, the NEPC boss stressed the need for exporters to adopt a global mindset and move beyond exporting small container-loads. She highlighted the agency’s initiatives designed to support businesses, including market access assistance and promoting value-added products. She also disclosed that these measures like Operation Double Your Export and Export 35, all of which target increasing volume and value of non-oil exports in exchange for foreign earnings.
The NEPC interactive session was organised to connect with stakeholders, understand their challenges, and offer solutions to boost the non-oil export sector. The agency’s managing director encouraged participants to leverage NEPC’s resources and expertise to develop their non-oil export activities.
