Lagos State Governor, Babajide Sanwo-Olu, has pledged to deepen cooperation with the Netherlands, particularly in agriculture, to achieve food security in the state.

This commitment was expressed during a meeting with the Dutch Minister of Foreign Trade and Development Cooperation, Geoffrey Leeuwen, and his counterpart for Migration, Eric Burg.

Sanwo-Olu disclosed that the state government is open to expanding its relationship with the Netherlands in various sectors, especially agriculture, to guarantee food security. He highlighted the potential for collaboration in areas like food production, storage, technology, healthcare, and renewable energy.

The Dutch Foreign Trade Minister reciprocated the governor’s enthusiasm, affirming the Netherlands’ government’s dedication to collaborating on mutually beneficial economic and business ventures in Lagos. Leeuwen stated that his government valued the long-standing partnership with Nigeria.

He added that his government seeks to further strengthen the partnership through high-level visits and trade missions.

This agreement comes amid Lagos State’s ongoing efforts to ensure food security. Last month, the state government announced the activation of its Red Meat Initiative, which includes establishing a feedlot system, a butchers’ academy, and a dedicated meat shop.

The partnership with the Netherlands represents a significant step towards achieving food security in Lagos. By combining Dutch expertise with Lagos’ local resources and initiatives, both parties aim to create a more sustainable and efficient food system for the state’s residents.
