Governor Ahmed Usman Ododo of Kogi State has been named the Governor of the Year in Agriculture for 2024 by Independent Newspapers Limited. The award recognises his administration’s outstanding contributions to food security, mechanised farming, and agricultural development in the state.

A statement by his Chief Spokesman, Ismailia Isah, revealed that the award was presented at a ceremony in Abuja and was received on the governor’s behalf by the Commissioner for Information and Communications, Kingsley Fanwo. It highlighted that his policies have empowered farmers through mechanised farming, enhanced agricultural value chains, and encouraged young people and women to participate in the sector.

This recognition marks Governor Ododo’s third major award from media organisations this year, underscoring his dedication to boosting agriculture, youth and women’s inclusion, and sustainable development.

Governor Ododo has also been honoured with the Political Personality of the Year Award by The Sun Newspaper, the Governor of the Year Award by Daily Asset Newspaper, and the Youth-Friendly Governor Award by the National Association of Kogi State Students (NAKOSS) for his efforts in youth empowerment.

According to Isah, Ododo’s interventions in agriculture have significantly improved food production in Kogi, positioning the state as a key player in Nigeria’s agricultural transformation under President Bola Ahmed Tinubu’s administration. The governor’s initiatives align with Tinubu’s Renewed Hope Agenda, reinforcing Kogi’s role in strengthening national food security.

His administration continues to implement policies that drive agricultural growth, making Kogi a model state for food production and rural development.
