News in Brief:
– The Katsina State Government has allocated â¦10 billion for food distribution to combat food insecurity during Ramadan.
– This initiative involves subsidising staple grains and providing food aid to roughly 2.1 million vulnerable residents across the state
In line with preparations for the Moslem Ramadan fast, the Katsina State Government has announced a â¦10 billion initiative to provide food aid to vulnerable residents.
This plan comes amidst nationwide concerns regarding the high cost of food due to inflation. According to information made available to newsmen, the state government, collaborating with local authorities, will utilise the funds to purchase grains for distribution.
The project targets approximately 72,200 individuals, who are expected to receive daily assistance throughout Ramadan, translating to roughly 2.1 million residents over the entire period.
The state government revealed that the prices of staple foods like maize, millet, and guinea corn will be reduced to â¦20,000 per bag.
Also to ensure transparency in the process, committees at both state and local levels will oversee the distribution process. Sales of subsidised grains will be limited to 10 measures per buyer, with proceeds returned to the state government.
Additionally, 33,000 elderly and underprivileged families will be directly provided with food items and financial aid.
Meantime, Katsina state governor, Dikko Umar Radda, stressed the importance of accountability during the distribution process, ensuring proper handling of funds.
This initiative by the Katsina State Government aims to alleviate the burden of food insecurity for vulnerable residents during the holy month of Ramadan.
