The International Fund for Agricultural Development (IFAD) and Yokohama City, Japan, have recently joined forces to host two pivotal global food security gatherings: TICAD9 and GREEN×EXPO 2027. These initiatives aim to address pressing issues impacting local farmers worldwide.
Yokohama City’s commitment to hosting IFAD’s Japan Liaison Office shows on its role as a crucial ally in combating rural poverty and hunger. The agency’s president, Alvaro Lario, expressed gratitude for Yokohama’s support, stressing the city’s significance beyond mere hosting duties.
IFAD’s collaboration with Yokohama extends beyond event hosting. Through initiatives like the Enhanced Linkages between the Private Sector and Small-scale Producers (ELPS), jointly launched with Japan’s Ministry of Agriculture, Forestry, and Fisheries (MAFF), the focus shifts to empowering small-scale food producers economically.
