The Ghanaian Ministry of Food and Agriculture has announced the upcoming 40th edition of National Farmers’ Day, scheduled for November 8, 2024, in the Greater Accra Region.

According to a press release by the ministry, this year’s celebration will focus on the theme: Building Climate-Resilient Agriculture for Sustainable Food Security. It will stress Ghana’s commitment to addressing the challenges posed by climate change.

In the lead-up to the main event, the country will host a five-day National Agricultural Fair, known as Agrifest Ghana 2024, starting from November 4.

Essentially, the fair aims to showcase Ghana’s agricultural heritage. It will provide a platform for farmers, stakeholders, and innovators to exchange knowledge and best practices.

The culmination of the celebration will be the National Awards Night on November 8, where President Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo will recognise outstanding farmers in 16 categories.

These categories include the Overall National Best Farmer, National Best Livestock Farmer, National Best Female Farmer, and National Best Physically Challenged Farmer.

Meantime, the ministry has underscored the urgency of climate change and its impact on sustainable agriculture. It advocates for the adoption of climate-resilient practices to ensure food security.

Consequently, the country’s National Farmers’ Day event will promote innovation and encourage the agricultural sector to adapt to environmental challenges.
