The Food and Agriculture Organization (FAO) has announced a call for proposals aimed at addressing the challenges posed by COVID-19, conflicts, and climate change in the Sahel region.
Titled “Regional Coordination and Support to Political Dialogue of the Joint Sahel Program in Response to COVID-19, Conflicts, and Climate Change (SD3C),” the initiative offers a total funding of up to $500,000 over three years.
It seeks to provide vital support to local farmers in the Sahel region, where the impacts of COVID-19, conflicts, and climate change have exacerbated existing vulnerabilities. With agriculture being the backbone of many Sahelian economies, the broader aim is to bolster resilience and ensure sustainable food production amidst adversity.
Application process and deadline
Organisations eligible to apply include intergovernmental organisations, non-profit organisations, universities, vocational training institutions, or research institutes based and operating in West Africa, including SD3C countries. Applicants are required to propose a co-financing contribution of at least 20%, demonstrating commitment to the project’s objectives.
The deadline for proposal submission is May 20, 2024, at 23:59 GMT. Proposals received after this deadline will be deemed ineligible. It’s important to note that submission does not guarantee funding, as proposals will be evaluated based on quality and alignment with FAO priorities.
