Ethiopia and China have pledged to strengthen their strategic partnership, with a particular focus on boosting collaboration in agriculture and mining.

This development was disclosed during the recently held Ethio-China Agriculture and Mining Industry Cooperation Fair, held in the country’s capital city of Addis Ababa.

The occasion brought together leading businesses from China’s Hunan province and their Ethiopian counterparts, a news report says. It was organised by the Ethiopian Investment Commission, Changsha Municipal Bureau of Commerce, and the Ethiopian Youth Entrepreneurs Association, with the aim of fostering business ties and exploring joint ventures in key sectors.

In his address during the event, Ethiopian Deputy Director General for Foreign Affairs, Ambassador Negus Kebede, highlighted the fair’s role in creating networking opportunities and solidifying industry cooperation between the two countries.

Also, he emphasised on the recent elevation of Ethiopia-China relations to a strategic partnership, marked by over a dozen signed agreements for broader collaboration.

Furthermore, Kebede highlighted the importance of business-to-business and government-to-business interaction, as a means of driving economic development.

Responding, China’s Economic and Commercial Minister Counselor, Yang Yihang, reiterated China’s commitment to sharing expertise in agriculture and mining with Ethiopia. He acknowledged China’s vast market potential for Ethiopian mining products and pledged to support their export.

The fair included business-to-business sessions focusing on investment, trade, and procurement projects in mining, agriculture, and other industries.
