In a landmark move to boost commercial agriculture in Nigeria, the Dangote Group has partnered with the Niger State Government to drive investment in rice production, under the Niger Food initiative.

Speaking at the 2025 Niger National Trade Fair in Minna, Fatima Abdurrahman, Senior Special Adviser to the President and Chief Executive of Dangote Group, announced significant progress on the company’s ultra-modern rice mill in Wushishi. The mill, part of a multi-billion naira investment, is slated to become one of the largest in the country.

“This state-of-the-art facility, built on a 30-hectare site, will process 32 metric tonnes per hour and incorporate the latest rice milling technology,” Abdurrahman said. “It’s a key step toward food security, job creation, and strengthening the agricultural value chain.”

The Dangote Rice Mill will source paddy from local outgrowers, acting as a 100% off-taker at market-competitive prices. It will also include a 5.8MW captive power plant and 32 silos, each capable of storing 2,500 metric tons of rice.

Governor Muhammed Bago, represented by Commissioner Aminu Takuma, welcomed the investment, highlighting Niger State’s commitment to opening up for agricultural business. He hinted at plans to elevate the Trade Fair to an international event.

Dr. Bisi Adeniyi, President of the Niger Chamber of Commerce, called on investors to leverage Niger’s vast arable land, while Minister of State for Agriculture, Sabi Abdullahi, emphasized the alignment of the initiative with President Bola Tinubu’s economic agenda.

The project is expected to significantly enhance local rice production, generate jobs, and position Niger State as a key player in Nigeria’s agro-industrial landscape.
