Nigeriaâs federal government has announced a â¦210 million support package focused on farming equipment and skill acquisition tools for the Chibok community. The initiative seeks to revitalise the community while addressing the aftermath of the 2014 schoolgirlâs kidnapping.
This funding assistance aligns with the Tinubu-led administrationâs agenda to focus on agriculture. Women Affairs minister, Uju Kennedy-Ohanenye, made this disclosure during a meeting with a delegation from the Chibok community, recently.
The minister remarked that the aim was to provide relief from the trauma they experienced and revive the communityâs economy. Funding for the initiative stemmed from a unique partnership with the American University of Yola. 50% of the federal government’s scholarship payments for Chibok girls studying at the university were also diverted to support the community.
Meantime, the academic institution will facilitate the purchase and distribution of equipment which includes industrial machines for rice and corn milling, solar pumping machines for irrigation farming, fish grilling machines, sewing machines and tricycle trucks.
Additionally, Director-General of the Maryam Babangida National Women Development Centre, Dr. Asabe Vilita-Bashir, emphasised that the gesture’s aim is to restore hope and encourage community participation in improving living standards.
Also, District Head of Chibok, Ahmadu Usman, expressed gratitude for the support. He assured proper utilisation of the equipment for the benefit of affected families and the community as a whole.
