Nigeria’s Adamawa state has announced a committment ₦500 million to procure agricultural inputs for dry season farming. The move is aimed at supporting farmers and bolstering food security.

Making the announcement recently, Adamawa’s Agriculture Commissioner, Prof. David Jatau, also stressed the importance of supporting smallholder farmers in boosting food production.

He explained that the allocated funds will be used to acquire essential resources like fertilisers, herbicides, and improved seeds. These inputs will be distributed strategically, prioritising accessibility for farmers at the grassroots level.

Targeted distribution, monitored impact

Prof. Jatau further stated that the distribution of inputs will be organised through clusters and monitored by the state government. This according to him, is to ensure effectiveness, proper assessment of the impact of the inputs, while preventing any potential misuse.

In this regard, he urged farmers to utilise the resources responsibly, while commending the federal government and development partners for their contributions to the state’s agricultural sector. He concluded by calling for collective effort from all stakeholders to achieve the program’s goals and enhance Adamawa’s agricultural potential.

This initiative signifies the Adamawa state government’s proactive approach to boosting agricultural production and ensuring food security. By providing essential inputs and monitoring their utilisation, the program aims to empower farmers and contribute to the state’s overall economic development.
