– This public-private partnership project is expected to create jobs, empower farmers, and boost the state’s economy by contributing to food security, export earnings, and agricultural transformation.

Governor Umar Namadi of Jigawa State officially opened the ComttraJigawa Hibiscus processing plant. This marks a significant step towards economic diversification and agricultural transformation in the state.

The public-private partnership project, established in collaboration with Comttraex Nigeria Limited, aims to add value to the state’s hibiscus production, a major contributor to national food security and export.

Speaking during the opening, Governor Namadi highlighted the plant’s potential for job creation, poverty reduction, and increased export earnings. He emphasised the focus on ensuring product quality through specific measures like preventing adulteration and meeting international standards.

Additionally, the facility boasts a daily cleaning capacity of six tonnes and a fumigation capacity of 48 tonnes. Analysts opine that it has the potential to transform Jigawa into a leading hub for processing and exporting hibiscus flowers. This, in turn, is expected to empower local farmers. This is achieved by providing them with access to modern technology, training, and better market opportunities.

Ultimately, the initiative aligns with the state’s existing 12-Point Agenda for agricultural development. The agenda aims to improve the sector’s contribution to the state’s and national economy while creating sustainable livelihoods for citizens.
