Farmers, produce buyers, and consumers in Lagos are applauding the Lagos State government’s effort to combat food insecurity through the Lagos Fresh Food Fair, held at the Agro Food Hub in Idi Oro, Mushin.
The initiative launched by Governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu’s administration, aims to provide Lagosians with affordable access to fresh produce while supporting local farmers.
The fair is scheduled to run every Saturday until the end of July 2024. It serves as a vital market for farmers and aims to boost the state’s economy.
Dapo Olakulehin, General Manager of the Lagos State Coconut Development Authority, highlighted the initiative’s benefits. He stated that it created an enabling environment and a good market for farmers to sell their produce through the fresh food fair.
Quality control, incentives for farmers and consumers
He noted the presence of agriculture officers ensuring quality control and reiterated the fair’s purpose, which is to bring the farmers who are producing different fresh products in Lagos State to display their agricultural produce.
The Fair offers an additional incentive for residents. It offers a 10% discount on purchases between â¦2,000 and â¦50,000 when using a MoMo account. Olakulehin said, “we have created an enabling environment and a good market for our farmers to sell their produce through the fresh food fair. The money is being circulated in Lagos; you produce in Lagos and sell in Lagos. That is the idea.”
This initiative has been met with positive responses from all stakeholders. Farmers have expressed appreciation for the platform. This owes to the fact that it directly connects them with consumers, while selling their products at fair prices. Consumers welcome the access to fresh, local produce at affordable costs.
