The All Farmers Association of Nigeria (AFAN) in Jigawa State has issued a warning about fraudulent individuals posing as association representatives.
The association alleged that some individuals are allegedly extorting money from farmers under the guise of offering services related to government agricultural support programs.
AFAN denies charging farmers for services
To this end, AFAN has clarified that they do not charge farmers for any of their services or support programs. Jigawa state chairman, Engineer Auwal Garba Ibrahim, emphasised that any such requests are fraudulent.
He condemned the illegal and unethical behaviour of the imposters and assured the public that the association was working with law enforcement to bring the perpetrators to justice. Furthermore, AFAN is urging farmers to be vigilant and report any suspicious activity to the authorities.
Farmers are advised to verify officials
Meantime, to protect themselves from falling victim to these scams, farmers are advised to only engage with verified AFAN officials and to be cautious of unsolicited requests for payments or fees.
The association also commended the efforts of Jigawa State Governor Malam Umar Namadi in supporting farmers. They expressed their commitment to providing transparent and ethical assistance to the agricultural community.
Recall that Governor Umar Namadi of Jigawa State had last week, ordered the arrest of Isyaku Katanga, the chairman of the All Farmers Association of Nigeria in Kiyawa Local Government Area.
This was in response to allegations that Katanga had illegally increased farmers’ fees by ₦2,000 on subsidised farming inputs. Therefore, the recent statement by the body may not be unconnected with this development. AFAN has pledged to cooperate fully with the investigation process.
