News in brief: Farmers are using beehives as a non-lethal deterrent to prevent elephants from raiding their crops, with charity Save The Elephants supporting the initiative.
Farmers are using bees to stop elephants from raiding their farms in the hope that this non-lethal means also save the animals’ lives. According to a news report, Save The Elephants, a UK-based charity, is working with the farmers and suggested the approach.
The charity, whose mission is to ‘secure a future for elephants’, build beehives across the edges of farms in a form of fence for free. When the insects swarm, the elephants are usually deterred.
Happy #WorldBeeDay!
