Ogun state distributed agricultural supplies to over 8,800 farmers through the OGUN-CARES FADAMA program to boost agricultural production and food security.
The Ogun state government has distributed agricultural inputs, assets, and infrastructure support to over 8,800 smallholder farmers across all 20 local government areas.
According to a post on the official X (formerly Twitter) page of the government, Hon. Bolu Owotomo, Commissioner for Agriculture, presented the distributed items to beneficiaries at the OGUN-CARES FADAMA premises in Abeokuta.
The commissioner acknowledged the challenges faced by farmers, particularly in the wake of the COVID-19 pandemic. Governor Dapo Abiodun’s commitment to alleviating these burdens through various intervention programs, including OGUN-CARES FADAMA, was reiterated.
Furthermore, the commissioner commended the vital role that farmers play in ensuring food security for the state’s population. He applauded their dedication to food production and processing despite ongoing economic difficulties.
Also, Owotomo urged farmers who have not yet received support to exercise patience as the distribution is being carried out in phases. He encouraged all beneficiaries to collaborate with the FADAMA team and utilise the provided resources effectively to maximise their profits.
Meantime, Samuel Adeogun, Permanent Secretary in the Ministry of Agriculture, revealed that over 10,000 farmers have already benefited from previous distributions. He highlighted positive feedback received from these farmers, indicating how the program has improved their livelihoods.
The distributed items encompass a variety of resources designed to empower farmers including 14,000 day-old chicks, 560 bags of chick feed, 209 bags of fish feed, 500 bags of fertiliser, 8 motorised sprayers, and 75 rechargeable knapsack sprayers.
