Liberian farmers and entrepreneurs are poised to reap the benefits of a brand new $450,000 co-investment grant program launched by the United States Agency for International Development (USAID).
The agency awarded the fund in form of co-investment grants that will be distributed among 11 agricultural cooperatives and Small and medium-sized enterprises (SMEs) across four Liberian counties.
According to Jim Wright, USAID Liberia’s mission director, the program directly empowers Liberian entrepreneurs and fosters a stronger agricultural sector that can drive sustainable economic growth.
Effectively, the grant is expected to act as a catalyst, unlocking an additional $340,000 from the private sector to boost for food crop productivity, processing, and marketing across Liberia.
Meantime, the country’s Say No to Hunger Farmers’ Multipurpose Cooperative is a direct beneficiary of this grant.
Mr. Ezekiel Sayeteeng, the Executive Director of the cooperative, expressed his elation, stating that it is a game-changer that will allow them to expand their operations, increase production, and create new employment opportunities.
Emphasising the grant’s role in empowering the cooperative’s members, Sayeteeng noted its ability to achieve food security and economic empowerment members.
