For this week’s agriculture opportunities, we rounded up a few academic opportunities in the agriculture and food sector for our readers. It consists of research grants and a post-graduate fellowship opportunity.

Agriculture opportunities for the week:

1. UKUDLA Post-doctoral Fellowship Program 2025

The African German Centre of Excellence for Sustainable and Resilient Food Systems and Applied Agricultural and Food Data Science (UKUDLA) is inviting applications for postdoctoral fellowships in the area of sustainable, resilient food systems and data science.

This 24-month post-doctoral fellowship is open to candidates with a doctoral degree in a discipline broadly linked to food systems or data sciences who are interested in how these fields intersect. The applicant must also be motivated and able to conduct advanced academic research, to deepen their expertise, develop new skills, and contribute to knowledge generation and transfer

Benefits of the fellowship include a monthly stipend of €1670 for the duration of the fellowship and the opportunity to participate in educational activities at the UKUDLA Graduate Centre, among other benefits.

2. Supporting African Science and Tertiary Education (SASTE) Grant – 4th Call

The Supporting African Science and Tertiary Education (SASTE) Grant is open to support high-potential researchers from Sub-Saharan Africa working in the field of Agriculture, Forestry, Water Management, Renewable Energies, Nutritional Science, Human and Veterinary Medicine for a research stay in Austria.

This opportunity provides funding for travel, housing and a monthly stipend for the researcher to work with a hosting institution in Austria for 12 to 24 months. This grant is financed by a private donor in the form of a contract between the donor and the hosting institution in Austria, based on the results of the competitive selection process.

Eligible candidates must be Post-doctoral scientists (< 42 years old, women < 45 in case of child care) working in one of the fields of the above-listed topics of the call. Applicants must also hold a research position in Africa (which ensures the continuation of the work at the home institution after the research stay in Austria) and have research experience in the field of the proposed research, among other requirements.

3. Jana Robeyst Trust Fund Small Conservation Grants

The Jana Robeyst Trust Fund (JRTF) Small Conservation grant provides financial resources to early-career biologists/conservationists to carry out vital field conservation and research work on endangered mammals in Africa.

The grant aims to provide relatively small levels of funding (maximum of €1,500) for ongoing projects or pilot programmes with a clear conservation and research value.

An eligible project will have a clear conservation and research value and be based in a country in sub-Saharan Africa.
